Thank you to the Bluebell Trust for recognising the need and awarding a £2,000 grant to Kernos.
This grant will go towards enabling us to work with those children and young people on our waiting-list who are unfunded and whose carers are unable to contribute more than a few pounds, if anything, toward the cost of sessions. The wait for such clients can be 6- 9 months, which is distressing for both everyone, as the children and young people who may be in crisis. Without counselling these youngsters can struggle to attend school or college and their anxiety and depression can increase. Their motivation and confidence to thrive in the community and with friends is also greatly reduced.
The young children we work with, aged 5+, sometimes cannot verbalize their concerns so therapeutic play equipment helps them and the therapist access the problems sooner. It therefore gives them the chance to share, even without words. It can teach a child to about healthy relationships and how to interact appropriately. It can give a child the means to resolve a confusing and negative experience. It can contribute to increasing and maturing a child’s capability to use vocabulary to express themselves.
Thank You Suffolk Community Foundation for your continued support and obtaining grants for Kernos.
