Kernos has been very lucky with grants & donations over the last few weeks, during this lockdown emergency, which meant fund raising activities had to stop and our offices had to close.
To help ease the challenges arising from the coronavirus pandemic, and to support people during this crisis, Babergh & Mid Suffolk Council’s Emerging Needs Fund has awarded Kernos £2,500, and the Suffolk Corona Virus Fund phase 2, via Suffolk Foundation, has awarded a further £5,000. Sudbury Town Council have given us £1,500; Newton Parish Council, £100 and we have also received a generous individual donation, from local supporter, Mr Graeme Weir, of £2,000.
Everyone at Kernos, and the people we are able to support, are so grateful for the funding received, which is crucial in keeping our services going. The pandemic is having a huge impact on mental health. This funding will assist us to be there for local people who need therapy at this very difficult time, and into the future.
The Royal College of Psychiatrists has warned that mental health services could be overwhelmed by “a tsunami of mental illness”. They report that people with no history of mental illness are developing serious psychological problems for the first time as a result of the lockdown, amid growing stresses over isolation, job insecurity, relationship breakdown and bereavement.
However, thanks to the emergency funding received, the Kernos Centre is in a position to continue providing online and telephone counselling to local people on our waiting list.
