Chris is the Founder of the Kernos Centre and has been instrumental in shaping its vision and values from the very beginning. In 2025, she was awarded the British Empire Medal in recognition of her services to mental health and counselling.
She brings a wealth of experience in mental health services, having worked as a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor in both private practice and the voluntary sector since qualifying as a counsellor in 1991. Her extensive clinical background has underpinned the ethos of Kernos, ensuring a strong foundation of professionalism, compassion, and high-quality care.
Alongside her clinical work, Chris has contributed to the development of others in the field. She was a tutor in Counselling Skills at West Suffolk College and a guest tutor at the University of Essex, where she lectured on working with survivors of childhood abuse—an area requiring deep expertise, sensitivity, and understanding.
Chris retired from clinical practice in 2011, leaving behind a significant legacy in both the individuals she supported directly and the many practitioners she helped to train and inspire.
Her vision continues to influence Kernos today, shaping the organisation’s commitment to delivering accessible, effective, and compassionate counselling services.
