Make a difference by giving your time.

At the Kernos Centre, our volunteers play a vital role in helping us provide support to our community. By volunteering with us, you can make a real difference to the lives of people who need a safe space, understanding, and compassionate support.

Whether you have professional skills to share or simply want to give your time to a worthwhile cause, we would love to hear from you.

Why volunteer with us?

Volunteering at the Kernos Centre is a rewarding experience that allows you to:

  • Support your local community – help a charity that provides essential emotional support and counselling services.
  • Make a positive impact – your contribution helps us continue providing valuable services to those who need them.
  • Develop new skills – gain experience in areas such as administration, fundraising, events, communications, or charity operations.
  • Share your skills and experience – use your knowledge and strengths to help us grow.
  • Meet new people – become part of a friendly and supportive team.
  • Enjoy a sense of purpose – know that your time and effort are helping others.

Volunteer Roles

Reception Volunteer

As a charity, we rely on a small team of part-time staff and dedicated volunteers to help run our services. This means we are not always fully staffed throughout the day and having volunteers who can offer a warm welcome and friendly presence is incredibly valuable.

Our Reception Volunteers are often the first point of contact for clients, visitors, and callers. Simply greeting someone with kindness, helping them feel comfortable, answering the phone, and providing a friendly face can make a real difference to someone’s experience when they come to us for support.

If you have a caring attitude, enjoy helping others, and are willing to give your time, you can make a valuable contribution to Kernos.

Counselling Administration Volunteer

Our Counselling Administration Volunteers play an important role in helping Kernos provide a safe, effective, and well-organised counselling service.

This role involves supporting the behind-the-scenes administration that helps clients access the right support at the right time. Volunteers assist with reviewing referrals, maintaining waiting lists, updating records, supporting appointment administration, and ensuring important information is accurate and handled with care.

This role is ideal for someone who is organised, detail-focused, compassionate, comfortable using IT systems (including Microsoft Office), and interested in learning more about the work of a counselling charity.

Fundraising Committee Volunteer

Our Fundraising Committee Volunteers play an important role in helping Kernos raise vital funds to support our counselling services and ensure we can continue providing support to our community.

Working as part of a team, you will help develop ideas, plan fundraising activities, and support the delivery of events and campaigns that raise awareness and generate income for the charity.

This is a rewarding opportunity for people who enjoy being creative, working with others, organising activities, and making a positive difference through fundraising.

Skills-Based Volunteer Roles

We welcome volunteers with a wide range of skills, experience, and interests. If you have a particular skill or professional background that you feel could benefit Kernos, we would love to hear from you.

Every hour you give helps us continue supporting people through difficult times.

Become a Trustee Volunteer

If you have experience, knowledge, or a passion for making a difference, you may also be interested in becoming a Trustee volunteer at the Kernos Centre.

Our Trustees help guide the charity’s future by providing leadership, oversight, and support to ensure we continue delivering effective counselling services to our community. Trustees bring valuable skills, fresh perspectives, and commitment to our mission.

You do not need to have previous charity experience – we welcome people from a range of backgrounds who are willing to share their experience, ideas, and enthusiasm.

As a Trustee volunteer, you can:

  • Help shape the future direction of a local counselling charity.
  • Use your professional skills and life experience to support our work.
  • Contribute to important decisions that help us grow and improve our services.
  • Work alongside staff and fellow Trustees who share a commitment to supporting others.
  • Gain valuable experience in charity governance and leadership.
