Sudbury Rotary Club raises funds for Kernos

The Kernos Centre and Compassion are the two charities that the out-going President of Sudbury Rotary Club, Lesley Ford-Platt, has been supporting during her year of office.

A fund-raising event for these charities, held at St Peter’s Church in Sudbury on 16th June, was a well-attended Auction of Promises.

Over 50 lots – including a week’s self-catering holiday at a chalet in Wales, Tea for Two on the river at Ely, Bed and Breakfast at Hill House, a day’s Pigeon Shooting, a two-hour drive in a 1927 Humber Tourer, as well as whisky, wine, champagne, flowers, facials and cakes – went under the hammer during the afternoon’s bidding.

The Kernos Centre is due to receive a half-share of the donations that the auction generated, so Sudbury Rotary Club’s fund-raising is good news for potential clients of Kernos, since every penny allocated to the Centre will go to help the provision of professional counselling and support for local people suffering from emotional and psychological difficulties.
