Kernos reaches a 3,000-client milestone…

The Kernos Centre opened in Friar Street, Sudbury on the 1st April 2003 and this August we have reached a milestone – over 3,000 people from Sudbury and the surrounding area, ranging in age from 5 to 93, having benefitted from our services during the past 14 years.

Over one third of those have been Children and Young People, the majority of whom have had to rely on charitable funding – or the money we receive from donations – in order to access treatment for emotional, mental health and psychological problems that are not adequately served by the NHS.

From a group of 3 counsellors treating just 78 clients in our first year, we now have a team of 12 qualified, professional counsellors helping upwards of 300 people each year to achieve long-term, sustainable health and well-being outcomes, backed by a 9-strong volunteer office team that keeps the Centre working smoothly.

As Kernos has grown we have been very fortunate with the recognition and financial support we have received from the local community, both from individuals and organisations: for example, the current Sudbury Town Mayor, Sarah Page, has chosen us to be one of the local charities that she supports during her term of office, which runs until May 2018. This continuing support has made a real difference for our clients, both young and old, because it has allowed us to ensure that those most in need receive appropriate, effective and ongoing help, regardless of their resources, for as long as required.

This is how the East Anglian Daily Times and the Suffolk Free Press have each reported this achievement.

You can help Kernos to continue providing their vital services to local people by donating much-needed funding directly – this can be done either by:
