Kernos is Recruiting…

In order to cope with the ever-increasing demands for its services, Kernos is looking for people to:

  • help run the office
  • raise operational funding

These are two positions that we need to fill to enable us to maintain our high level of professional counselling and help for people with emotional or psychological difficulties in Sudbury and the surrounding area – in particular those who are not provided for through current statutory provision, and especially anyone without the means to finance counselling support.

The Positions:

1. Voluntary Part-Time Office Support

A volunteer is required who will, for one day or 2 part-days a week, depending on how much time you are able to offer, be able to:

  • Handle enquiries and bookings for client appointments (with other volunteers)
  • Help with the continued smooth running of the administration by:
    • Being friendly and approachable, having a good telephone manner and ability to communicate at all levels.
    • Conveying messages to other members of the team.
    • Dispatching incoming/outgoing mail and e-mails.
    • Following office procedures and administration tasks.
    • Having the ability to work as part of a team.

2. Paid Fundraiser

A person is required who is capable of:

  • Identifing potential sources of funding by using information already held at Kernos, the relevant directories, on-line sources and so on, and submitting grant applications
  • Preparing grant applications with supporting paperwork.
  • Developing a list of local companies and undertaking appeals for financial support
  • Maintaining and developing good working relationships with funders and potential partners
  • Reviewing and introducing new funding streams
  • Dealing with associated communications – phone, letters, e-mails – and handling visits from fund providers to Kernos.
  • Supporting our existing fundraising event volunteer.

Previous experience of fundraising and submitting grant applications would be useful; full support and guidance will be provided by the Directors.

The time required is 7 hours per week, either as one day or 2 part-days a week depending on how you wish to work. There is flexibility and some work can be done from home if preferred. Compensation will be subject to experience, ability and results.

Both of these roles afford great opportunities to make a real difference to people’s lives.

Each of the positions has the following requirements:

DBS Check: Yes

Driving Licence: No

Age restriction? Yes – 18 and over

Mandatory training: No

Everyone at Kernos believes that people should be heard, valued, respected and empowered, and we are looking for applicants who deeply believe in our values and ethos – are you the right person to help our small, friendly but busy charity continue to grow and function smoothly?
